Wood Floor Polishing

Many people have never even heard the word “mango,” but among those who have, the most common reaction is to think of it as a delicious tropical fruit.  Mango, however, also refers to an environmentally sound flooring product.  Mango wood grows very fast, yet once a tree approaches the height of 100 feet, its fruit production will cease.  At that point, growers have little option but to chop down the tree to make room for a new sapling that will produce fruit again.  The cut down tree can be harvested into wood for a variety of uses, including floorboards.

Mango trees thrive in areas that are tropical or subtropical, growing well in the South-east Asia, Africa, and India as well as more westernized areas such as Florida and Hawaii.  The shade of the wood ranges greatly; deep, rich browns are common, but so are light blond shades that seem to glow like gold after floor sanding and polishing.  Grains vary too, exhibiting patterns that are jagged as well as those that are curly.

What mango has in common is that the wood is heavy and coarse no matter what its colour.  It is also resistant to water, which can make it an ideal wood in wet areas of the house such as kitchens and bathrooms.  To retain this resistance, homeowners should polish their floors with oil on a regular basis.  While flooring is a common use for mango, in tropical nations it is also used as timber to construct houses or to create products to be used in house construction, such as plywood.

Most of the hardwood flooring options available for purchase consist of wood species whose names are familiar to consumers.  From maple to oak to hickory, wooden floors are commonly made of recognisable trees.  Even when wooden floors are made of exotic species such as mahogany, the names of the woods involved may be familiar.  Ipe, however, is an example of a hardwood that many consumers have most likely never heard of.  That said, it is an ideal hardwood flooring choice for many situations.

Janka Hardness

Ipe possesses a Janka hardness rating of 3600, which means it is a much denser wood than many that are selected for hardwood flooring purposes.  The Janka scale is a common measure of how hard it is to ding, dent or scratch a given sample of wood.  A Janka hardness of 3600 tells consumers that children and pets can “play rough” on the floor without putting it in any damage of getting marred.

Disadvantages Of Ipe

Although the Janka hardness of ipe does mean that it will easily be able to tolerate multiple instances of floor sanding and polishing, consumers should be aware that ipe could be a challenging choice for other reasons.  It possesses chemicals that can interfere with the ability of wood stains to soak into the surface for an even finish.  For this reason, it is best to have ipe finished professionally rather than attempting to do it yourself.  Ipe is commonly sold in a pre-finished state.

If you want to maintain the look and strength of your hardwood floors, sanding is something indispensable. Although you can sand your floors yourself, it is better to hire professionals for this purpose.

Introduction

The greatest risk in hardwood floor polishing is the possibility of leaving sanding marks on the floor. If you try to sand the floor on your own, you might end up spoiling the whole thing. Therefore, it is better to hire professional services. Before you select a sanding professional, make sure that he/she is experienced and reputed. Take help from your relatives or friends to locate a good sanding professional. You can also search the internet for this purpose.

Latest technology

Various types of sanding papers with different textures are required to sand the hardwood floors. Sanding machines also come in various varieties. Make sure that your sanding professional makes use of the latest machines and technology in sanding your floor. Dust free sanding is very popular now-a-days. The danger of sanding marks caused due to left over dust particles is minimized in dust free sanding.

Other precautions

Before the process of sanding starts, make sure that your sanding professionals remove all the nails from the floor. They should also tighten the loose wooden planks, if there are any. If the sanding machine runs over a nail or a loose wooden plank, it can cause sanding marks on hardwood floors. Sanding machine should be constantly kept in movement while sanding. It should not be held for a long time on a particular point, as it can also cause sanding marks and even deep grooves.

To avoid any sanding marks on your hardwood floors, sanding professionals with good reputation and experience is all you need to find. These professionals are aware of the appropriate sanding papers and machines that are to be used. They also have expertise in using the sanding machines properly.
