The Wood Flooring Forum (WFF) was held in Shanghai at the end of March. The Forum deals with all kinds of issues relevant to the wood flooring industry including wood floor restoration techniques. It featured a very prominent guest speaker in the form of Jurgen Fruchtenicht, the president of the European Federation of Parquet Imports (EFPI).
Fruchtenicht spoke in front of more than three hundred delegates from the wood flooring industry. He addressed several issues to do with the trade including the EU’s upcoming Illegal Timber Regulation, the U mark being introduced by the German Building Product Directive and CE marking, among others. Fruchtenicht believes that the rise in legislation affecting the wood flooring industry across Europe, including in the United Kingdom, can in fact only be a good thing as it allows the supply chain to become consolidated and will squeeze out poor quality in terms of operations and poor product sourcing control. Fruchtenicht also noted that as regulations continue to tighten, exporters are going to come to require the support of accredited import companies in order to be able to continue to trade legally and successfully throughout the European Union.
Fruchtenicht’s speech was the opening address of the Forum, which was held on the 27th March and took place at around the same time as the Domotex exhibition, which was staged in Asia. The Wood Flooring Forum is the only such summit meeting of the wood flooring industry in the entire world.
