Hardwood Floors: More Than Mere Beauty

Most people considering home renovation are already aware that selecting a hardwood floor as a main decorating motif will add beauty and elegance to their dwelling, making it a pleasant place to live for many years to come. There are many other reasons, however, besides sheer luxury why hardwood is an ideal choice of floor surfacing.

Easy Upkeep

One of the best aspects to having a hardwood floor is the fact that it is so easy to keep clean. Because hardwood floors present a tightly fitted surface, they do not harbour a lot of cracks, nooks and crannies. This means that there are not very many places in and around them where dust, debris and dirt can accumulate.

Instead, all debris will sit on the surface of the floor where it can be very quickly and easily swept away. Compare this to the situation with ceramic tile or even linoleum, both of which have contours in which dirt can build up. Tile can be difficult to sweep because grout lines can be quite deep, and may require mopping.

With a hardwood floor, an occasional sweeping is usually the only routine upkeep needed.

Longevity

Hardwood floors can last for years, decades, and even generations. Properly manufactured and installed hardwood floors are made from wood that is kiln-dried so that changes in moisture and humidity will not affect it very much. In the course of time, the floor will need the services of a floor sanding firm to remove scratches and return it to a state of perfect beauty.
