WOOD FLOOR SEALING – VARNISHING

Varnish or Lacquer

Wood Floor Sealing
More durable than oil sealants, and easier to maintain, these products are typically used for mid to heavy traffic areas.

Modern lacquers (Bona and Junckers) no longer produce the ‘plastic’ look of old and offer a silky sheen in a matt, satin or high gloss finish.

Our recommended finish would be a polyurethane lacquer – highly resistant to wear but which may create some discoloration to the floor beneath.

As it is not a natural material, it can restrict the breath ability of your wooden floor.

For areas experiencing lighter usage, a part polyurethane/part acrylic floor sanding varnishing  might be preferable. This will not yellow or darken the wood in any way.

For lacquered/varnished floors, we would always recommend three applications

They dry within 1-3 hours and fully cure in 12-72 hours.

Laying wood floors is one of the most popular choices for any type of setting, be it for office or for homes. They are very durable but with usage, they tend to loose their shine and finish. The process of floor sanding and varnishing is done in order to maintain the look of your wood floors. This way you also add life to your floors.

Sealing the Floors

You have to select the right seal for your wood floor after taking into consideration a variety of factors such as the amount of traffic on your wood floor and the age of the floor. Once the process of floor sanding is over, you can get the waxing, varnishing, oiling or painting done by the wood floor sealing experts. You can also get the wood floor polishing done, to make your floors shine better. Undertaking the services of professionals is important as they are able to advice you on the type of wood floor sealing that you should go for.

Protection of Your Floors

Ensure that the floor has a smooth finish before getting the floor sanding and varnishing done. Varnishing helps to protect your floor as it uses vegetable oils that cause chemical reactions that help this process. They also reduce the moisture absorption and other types of damages that may occur. The usage of penetrating sealers also ensures that the wood does not dry out.
