Many people prefer to do floor sanding themselves. If you are one of them, it is important to remember that the floor as well as the room needs to be prepared for the process. However, this is easily done. Read on to find out more.
Preparing the Floor
One of the first things you need to do before you attempt to sand the floor of a room is to clear all the furniture. If you have any carpeting, rip it out. Check all the floorboards to ensure that none are loose. If they are glue them with hot wood glue. Check to ensure that there are no nails sticking out. If there are, hammer them down. See if there are any gaps between the Sanding floorboards. If there are, use a mixture of resin and wood dust to fill them up and wait till they dry up. Remove floor registers.
Preparing the Room
Ideally, remove all the draperies from the room. If you can’t, fold them over the drape rod and seal them in a bag. Seal all electrical outlets as the floor sanding dust is inflammable. Seal the room from other parts of the house, but ensure it is ventilated.
