Touch of the sun

Posted on September 24th, 2010 In: Blog, Wood Floor Repairs Blogs

Floor sanding and sealing is usually performed on mature wooden floors, often decades old.
Some boards may also require repair or replacement.  When selecting replacement boards, one must be aware of the way the wood in new boards matures.

Wood changes its colour from the effects of natural sunlight (ie ultraviolet light).
The colour matures quickest over the first six months – and then continues for up to two years.
Depending on the finish, wood becomes deeper and warmer in colour – or can turn yellow.

Using reclaimed mature wooden boards during wood floor restoration avoids unwanted changes.
