Determining the Right Finish
For sanding wooden floors, you need to be aware of the different kinds of finishes. There are four different types of finishes. These are oil based finishes, composite finishes, solvent based polyurethane finishes and water based finishes. Before wood floor sanding, determine the type of finish you want for your floors. Choose a color and finish according to the overall décor of your room.
Know about the Finishes
After sanding wooden floors, you can choose from amongst the different finishes. Oil based finishes are traditional finishes manufactured by reacting natural oils with other chemicals. Varnishes and tung oil are examples of this kind of finishes. Composite finishes are a combination of oil based alkyds and solvent based polyurethane finishes. Water based finishes comprise of polyurethane or acrylic mixes of moderate durability and is applied over a sealant to not only enhance the color of the wood but also to reduce edge bonding. Solvent based polyurethane offers a harder finish and is less flexible but it is more abrasion resistant.
