Biggest Flooring Trends Revealed
The three biggest new trends in flooring suggest a positive future for the industry. One of the most important new trends is toward sustainable flooring, with an increasing amount of flooring manufacturing companies making it their business to be as environmentally friendly as possible; in many cases following the lead of their customers who have made their desire to be ecologically responsible loud and clear.
The second trend simply indicates an increase in home renovations, including wood floor restoration, which is excellent news for the wood flooring sector in particular, as solid wood floors are always a popular choice for new floors as well as refurbished old ones. The carpeting industry also looks set to benefit for the sudden increase in demand as the end of the recession looms and the average homeowner will thus be more able to afford big changes such as these.
The third new trend can almost be seen as a metaphor for the better news about the global economy and the more environmentally responsible attitude that has been adopted by both the consumer and the industry, with brightly coloured flooring suddenly becoming popular. More neutral colours have been the norm in interior design for the last few years but that now seems to be changing.
“When people enter a new building, the first thing they look at is the floor” notes Angela Shaschen, the organiser of the Middle East Domotex 2011 expo. “The flooring is the business card of any building.”
