Engineered flooring has been declared to be the best option by far when it comes to being used with underfloor heating. Normal wooden floors are not ideal for use with underfloor heating due to the fact that changing temperatures result in the contraction and expansion of the wood. Engineered floorboards, on the other hand, are designed to have a much greater degree of strength and stability. This means that the planks in question are much less likely to contract or expand when exposed to different temperatures. One of the reasons for the difference in engineered floorboards in comparison to standard wood flooring is the amount of underlay that is used. While it is traditional to use a lot of underlay when installing wooden floors, in order to cut down on sound travelling as well as to assist in insulation and help make a more even surface on the floor, underfloor heating needs to have a thinner amount of underlay to make the heat circulate better in the room. Changing the temperature upwards or downwards at a slower rate has also been discovered to make a difference in terms of preventing the wood flooring from contracting and expanding to its detriment.
