Estate Hardwood Floors Shuts Down
Estate Hardwood Floors, the manufacturing side of Kellur Hardwood Flooring, which is based in Renfrew, Canada, was shut down last week, with its hardwood floor products, ideal for wood floor repairs among other uses, now set to be made by other companies both in Canada and overseas. Ironically enough, the closing of Estate Hardwood Floors comes barely a year after Kellur Hardwood Flooring was named as one of the fifty best-managed companies in the whole of Canada.
While fifty people have lost their jobs due to the closure of the subsidiary company, it is perhaps a mark of how far the situation has deteriorated in the last twelve months that the company was actually employing closer to ninety people at this point last year.
In a rather more positive turn of events for Kellur Hardwood Flooring, however, with its retail company reopening its doors in Renfrew at the end of this month, moving across the street from its old location at 2 Innovation Drive, to 1 Innovation Drive. The move will give the company extra space including a new showroom at the Innovation Centre, where it will rub shoulders with other companies such as Ottawa Valley Glass and Marshall’s. “Fortunately, the Renfrew Industrial Commission had some office space become vacant,” notes Renfrew Industrial Commission general manager Dave Lemkay. “We have worked out an arrangement as the company reorganises.”
The fifty retail employees employed by the company will retain their positions when the store reopens in its new location.
