MAPEI Goes Green
Mapei has joined the United Kingdom Green Building Council. The company, which is responsible for the production of adhesives and chemicals used by the construction industry and is one of the largest such companies in the whole world, has joined the Council as part of a series of moves it has recently made to become more environmentally friendly.
The United Kingdom Green Building Council is eager to try and change the building industry into one that provides the amount of care and support that is currently expected by consumers, but which has less of a negative impact on the natural environment of the world. Given Mapei’s status, their moves to join forces with the Council should have a big impact on the rest of the industry.
The flooring industry will likewise be excited by the move, primarily because of the certification that Mapei has already received for several of its products due to their low Volatile Organic Compounds levels, which is an issue that the flooring industry has been keen to address for some time. Those products are just a sample of no less than 150 Mapei products that have been noted as sustainable by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Sustainability, high quality and value are all of increasing importance to consumers, and it is hoped that many more companies will now follow Mapei’s lead in joining the Council and push the whole industry into a greener outlook; one that will also help the flooring industry’s own push towards sustainability, including the increasing marketability of sustainable wooden floors, ideal for use in wood floor repair.
