Opening of the Domotex Asia/China Floor exhibition
35 countries and 1200 exhibitors, both top and emerging, are exhibited the best in floor covering solutions and the latest products in 140,000 sq metres at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre in March.
The Domotex Asia/ChinaFloor Exhibition 2014 edition focused on ‘green’ and ‘innovation’ aspects of the future of the international flooring industry. Companies and individuals embodying environmental stewardship principles will for the first time become recipients of the prestigious GreenStep Awards in recognition of their achievements in the region.
Another aim of the GreenStep Asia awards is to expand their business interests into more established and mature markets such as those in Europe and North America, by leveraging and capitalising on their sustainability achievements.
Promoting innovative solutions
Also at the exhibition this year, back for its second edition, is InnovAction Flooring, a promotional campaign that backs the most innovative solutions in wood floor renovation. This year, exhibitors and visitors are being offered an interactive platform to facilitate matchmaking between producers and consumers before the show. A new selection and voting system has also been introduced to improve the quality of new wood floor refurbishment products.
The show is at the cutting edge of international flooring development and leads the way in healthy flooring solutions such as eco-friendly floor stripping products, providing visitors with an invaluable platform for identifying the latest products and key players in emerging markets.
In 2013, over 42,000 professionals from 107 countries attended the event and left very positive feedback, and this year’s event looks set to be an even greater success for the exhibition’s organisers.
Domotex Asia/ChinaFloor has, in terms of visitor profiles, concentrated on developing a vertical platform by integrating downstream and upstream resources. It has also built a solid track record of supporting the exhibition through a series of conferences, forums and events that concentrate on particular topics and provide insights into different application fields of the flooring industry. Some of the conference titles this year included:

• The 2nd China Hospital Environment Construction & Materials Applications Forum
• Hospitality Design Salon (part of the Shanghai Architect Fair held in the exhibition)

Many of the conceptual areas of the show have been created by means of the active cooperation of a large number of the exhibitors. These have highlighted specific subcategories of products and boosted top-level categories such as wood floor renovation products and finishes.
For example, the area of the exhibition which has been designated the Floor Heating Experience, in Hall N5, concentrated on heating systems technology. Here, exhibition visitors experienced directly the effects of various heating systems as well as studying the engineering and design concepts behind them. All the heating systems represented here have been proposed by companies occupying the wood floor restoration sector of the exhibition.
Meanwhile, in Hall W5, there was a ‘silent auction’ for buyers in the handmade carpet section, which featured handmade rugs and carpets from the top manufacturing countries.
The T.H.E Flooring Tech Forum in the flooring technology sector this year hosted international as well as Chinese speakers, discussing aspects of wood floor renovation and refurbishment as well as developments in the design of wood floor sanding machines.
The resilient flooring sector is especially buoyant this year and offered a ‘Golf Experience’ at the exhibition as a bit of light relief from the incessant buying, selling, matching and commissioning.
The Demotex Asia/ChinaFloor exhibition brought the entire global flooring industry together each year for three packed days of upbeat forums, discussions, lectures and assessments of the state of the industry around the globe.
