Vinyl Dominates DOMOTEX
There was a surprise standout at this year’s DOMOTEX flooring event. While solid wood floors, including those ideal for wood floor restoration, have previously been the standout product, and still remain popular, it was the turn of luxury vinyl flooring to take the spotlight at this year’s exhibition, one of the biggest such exhibitions in the flooring industry and one attended by industry types from all over the world, including the United Kingdom.
Even companies that had previously exclusively focused their flooring exhibitions on solid wood flooring were turning to the new luxury vinyl options. Vinyl has often been considered a somewhat “second string” option when it comes to flooring choices, though this has begun to change in recent times thanks to emerging technologies that have allowed it to become both much more durable and to offer a wider and more exciting range of designs. Vinyl floors have also begun to ape similar advancements that have been made in wood flooring, such as being able to offer designs that can simply “click” into place, allowing for a far easier installation process than has previously been the case with traditional systems.
“With the technology available today, it has become a good substitute for other types of flooring,” notes the general manager of international operations at Elegant Living, Ray Kwan, adding that the new kind of vinyl flooring styles have become increasingly accepted by the consumer market, and that he feels “the time was right” to begin expanding their range.
