Warning for Solid Wood Floor Owners
Owners of solid wood floors may think they have a flooring type that will last for up to several decades without needing anything in the way of repairs, but one expert is warning that they may be in for a nasty shock if they fail in their obligations to provide basic maintenance for their wood flooring.
Maintaining solid wood floors is not difficult, with many good kits available from flooring stores at affordable prices to help owners look after their floors, but it appears that many people are neglecting their responsibilities – and could then end up paying the price for doing so.
“Once a floor’s been lived on for a few months, its unique natural characteristics are forgotten, as busy lives take over” says the Sales and Technical Director of Fila UK, Lisa Breakspear. Breakspear notes that other problems can result from otherwise well meaning solid wood floor owners who actually use the wrong methods for cleaning their floors and can end up actually doing more harm than good. Indeed, unnecessarily harsh cleaning products are one of the primary causes of damage to solid wood flooring and if used continuously can end up requiring the services of professionals to be called in who are experts at wood floor restoration, often at a great cost. Another common cause of damage to solid wood flooring is from people who use too much water around it, and then allow it to remain on the floor if spilled without immediately cleaning it up.
