Wood Flooring is the Green Choice
Flooring companies are being urged to use Earth Day to encourage customers to purchase wood flooring for their homes by reminding them of its environmentally friendly nature. While the NWFA is based in the United States, their advice applies just as equally to firms in the United Kingdom, with Earth Day occurring all over the globe.
Companies are being urged to remind customers of all the reasons why wood flooring is the best choice for the environmentally-conscious customer, including the fact that its durability means it is unlikely to need to be replaced, or even have to undergo wood floor repairs, for a very long time, possibly even for up to a hundred years. It should also be pointed out that hardwood forests are very sustainable in nature, with more growth than removals occurring in hardwood forests on an annual basis.
Hardwood floors are also considered to be one of the best choices of floors for health reasons too, providing excellent air quality in the home and “trapping” far less toxic elements than other forms of flooring such as carpets. Customers should also be made aware that because wood is a carbon neutral product that stores carbon and produces oxygen during growth, that means that wood actually reduces the amount of global warming, as well as saving on other natural resources because far less water and energy are required to manufacture wood flooring than many of the alternatives. Wood is also unlikely to end up as landfill, as it is able to be either recycled for use in other products or even be burnt as fuel rather than just thrown away.
